#121. Re: Partial BloodWar Spoilers by sirohk

Does anybody have the LEVEL, AC, and HIT POINTS for the Free League Ranger? They seem to be missing.

Thanks.

I think they said invisibility would HELP an archmage (I take it that since they're in the same faction and that the OP of that idea said he'd be putting them in the same warband. . .)

Sure, and invisible archmage is sorta nifty--but not really. It lasts till you cast a spell, so if your only objective is to turtle this guy because you're massively up on points or you don't have a hope beyond getting the most out of your swords--it's a pretty lame idea.

Is anybody taking the Phoera seriously? Anybody? Those'r some free victory points sitting there guys.

This piece--if taken in multiples as an exclusive theme--make an octoskull band look downright scary (and no I'm not saying IT would fear an octoskull, I'm saying the average opponent with an average warband here)

The phoera is just one piece that I see the stats and I say--uh oh, I hope this isn't indicative of the OTHER skirmish stats in the set. Weird abilities, horrible cost. They can't all be winners, but seriously. . . . . this guy is one flaming bag of $h!%

It's as obviously bad as the mounted pig is good.

I've seen both. I just read a post in a different thread mentioning how it will be good anti-tech against a list of figures that included Archmage.

I don't know if I will add a Phoera to a warband, but I don't believe him to be so bad to be thrown out without consideration.

What is horrible about the cost? It has two uses of a useful fodder and tech killing special ability. It will deal damage back to the creature hitting it. It has an effective 1:1 hp to cost ratio, which is not terrible. Sure, it dies if you leave it our front. So does most any pure tech piece. There aren't many 19-point CG figures that provide much more. Different, sure, but not more.

The Phoera is Situationally Useful. This is much like how the Wand Expert is Situationally Useful; really good for solving a specific problem.

And truth be told, the Phoera is only one more minor ding in a long list of reasons why I've decided not to run a Wand Expert unless I'm really worried about GAS; he's CG's only real response to that band, since Conceal 6 and Dual Wand provide something against the monks.

Well, only real current response. The Gnome Trickster may well solve the problem much more effectively. There are very few pieces in CG I will dismiss as genuinely, utterly worthless. Most others are waiting for a super-specific build to work in, and thus are generally bad...but they do all have some value. One of my new warbands uses a Half-Elf Sorcerer, for example. So I wouldn't completely rule out the Phoera.

I'm taking the Phoera seriously. I'm not certain at this point if it is useful or not, but it is certainly better than the Lillend. It has a chance to be played. One big obstacle that I can think of is that if you start behind your pieces, fly over them and back, you'll be doing damage to your own guys.

What about a band with multiple Phoeras? Can't Phoeras heal each other (by dealing damage to themselves)? What if you had four or five Phoeras?

Wouldn't that give you eight flights doing 15 fire damage per creature touched ... and in the meantime healing up any damaged Phoeras?

But at only 20 HPs and Level 3, most will route with only 10 points of damage. Multiple Phoera would probably only work if you're only getting hit for 5 dmg each time. Not likely.

It's as obviously bad as the mounted pig is good.

Just a minor nitpick, jedijon:
It's a mounted -dwarf-. The pig is the mount. If their roles were reversed it would be a very odd-looking mini, and quite possibly it wouldn't make it past the censors. I can't imagine it would be very good in skirmish either. I don't know why a dire boar would choose a speed 4 dwarf as a mount. It would probably have a heck of a time hanging on, unless there was some sort of harness.

Cheers!
Bob

Blindsight This creature ignores Gaze Attacks, invisibility effects, and the Hide ability.

Invisibility Sphere won't save you from an Archmage. Or Lord Soth, for that matter.

Or the half-dozen or so figures with Blindsight in this set, for that matter.

Figures confirmed to have Blindsight thus far:

- Marilith (Preview 11)
- Living Flaming Sphere (Preview 3, Ooze trait)

Figures expected to have Blindsight based on spoilers:

- Hellcat
- Earth Elemental Gargoyle
- Epic Vlaakith

Figures that could have Blindsight based on precedent/type:

- Bralani Eladrin (Ghaele has Blindsight)
- Solar (has true seeing, but could be listed as True Seeing as the Glabrezu)

And lets not forget the 19 figures other than the Archmage and Lord Soth who already have Blindsight.

Don't get me wrong - Invisibility will be good. It just seems like there are enough figures out there to provide useful counters, both in Constructed and Limited play.

Absolutely, and those figures' respective values all just went up a notch.

Weve seen both of these actual cards, both have blindsight confirmed.
