What do you think of our status now?

As long as they release minis, they can be statted by us. We've proven in theory that we can do that with bloodwars.

We just need to figure a few more things out.

Dwayne it sounds like you guys will be undertaking a very large project for as long as D&D miniatures are being produced. A Jillion kudos for that!

Okay, that was a little uncalled for, Zaukrie.

You guys have no idea how much work those guys have put into this game.

Dwayne, Keith, Kevin, Guy, Derry, LCS, Foxman, etc., have all put a lot of work into this game the last few years. They deserve a little more thanks than that.

The goliath is nice, although I have no need for another goliath miniature (and they could have differentiated it further from the Stonechild mini by including a different weapon - spear, anyone).

The troll is odd. What's with the eye?

Both presented minis are rare-quality. However, this early (5-6 months prior to the release), it's a given that they are paint masters.

This may sound a bit harsh, Peter, but... considering that Scott mentioned that this decision was made months ago, did they know that they were working on a game which would soon be discontinued?

I am not accusing you of anything personally, I'm just wondering if WotC, as a company, had the courage and the decency to tell the freelancers that Skirmish was done with.

Well, damn. And DDXP was going to be the first con I was going to make it to for DDM. I imagine there will still be some events there, but it is sure going to be bittersweet knowing that there will be no more sanctioned events thereafter. Actually, this almost makes me want to go more, since I know I will likely never be able to play another sealed match.

On a more positive note, that goliath looks sweet, so my collector's urge may still find satiation in the new lines. :-/

I don't think Z means anything, I think there are going to be a LOT of unhappy DDMers. Many of which you'll see say a LOT of bad things about the company you work for. So I'll just say get used to it, as if you hadn't heard enough already in the time you've been working there. The Oracle/Stats guys like Tried are just going to be caught in the crossfire by association.

Let me get this straight. The year we had 110 people for a championship and 20+ people per qualified showed there was little interest in skirmish? That is totally ridiculous. 2.0 was and the initial all your old minis are useless announcement was the sole downfall of ddm. If you are a company that couldn't make a game with 110 people at the championship work, you are pretty sad.

But not here. People can take their hate-mongering elsewhere.

I like your enthusiasm and all the work you and the many others have put in is greatly apprciated. But...

Who will support and pay for doing the stat cards? Art work and such? How will they get distributed? Will DDM as we know it basically be a Vassal only game now (why travel to anywhere

And no more sanctioned events?

What about events like the community draft?

All grass roots now?

First thought is pretty much that its the end of DDM, at least sanctioned events and big tournaments like GenCon.

And as for XP, although this will be the last major DDM event, ever, I wonder how many folks will really want to invest any $ in going.

With the reasoning of the announcement, what will happen to Star Wars and A&A? Are there costs going through the roof and will thise lines eventually die?

So many questions. Just wow. I'm still in shock at the announcement and have no clue what to say, do or whta else to think about this.

Enough rambling.

Sad news, after 4+ years of skirmishing for me. Sad, but not unexpected given the trend of the economy and people's attitudes. I'll still collect and also use them for D&D regardless. It might possibly be cheaper to collect a set the new way (I hope).

Five years is a great run for a game of this type, and I appreciate the good times and friends it has brought me.

Now to wonder whether there will be enough demand to finish and publicly release a warband builder...

Ooh, although I was prepared for that news, it still stings.

I really hope we can keep the community together the 100 more days until DDXP and make one final community draft happen. I have some fairly rare stuff to offer to the prize table.

The decision to not have skirmish cards in the boosters was made a few months ago. There were other discussions going on about other methods to support the game, and that decision was made relatively recently. It wasn't decided until a day or two ago that there would be no skirmish stats going forward in an alternate distribution method.

Wow, where did that come from, Zauk? I'm not afraid to call someone out when s/he's out of line, but I just don't see it. Let's all cut each other some slack, eh?

Keep in mind that the Oracle team only just learned of this at the same time everyone else did, so we don’t have answers to everything yet.

What I can promise is that at a minimum, the Oracle team will support the game as we have done the past four months through the completion of the restats. We have a new release of the CRG, for example, that’s ready to go, and Oracle text for the Demonweb stats that we hope to release the day of the pre-release.

We’re chewing through some other ideas, as well, and it’d be silly to announce anything without fully exploring their potential and whether any of them are realistic.

I am very disappointed but fine with the end. My problem all comes down to terrible communication with their customers. This is not hat mongering it is fact. They could have said Skirmish is dead nd we will explain everything in an article later. Instead they kept everyone hanging for 48+ hours. That is a terrible thing to do to your customers. I can say right now it would not be ok for me to do that to my customers. All it does is upset the customers more. Being honest and forthright is the best way to go. I am disappointed in their handling of the situation. WotC can say what ever they want but it won't change that waiting 48+ hours to say anything at all was aterrible decision and makes some of what was said in the explanation disingenuous.

And this could have been easily clearly communicated in the announcement of repackaging.

I meant that just as I wrote it. Tried has been very condescending to people that don’t agree with him over the last year or so.

I am well aware that he puts a ton of work into this game, but the way I read his post was “see, we are the important people here”. If that is not how he meant it, then I’ll retract my statement.

Peter, did you even see my previous post where i said this was a kick in the nuts to the guys that worked on Oracle?

I 100% appreciate the great work these guys have done, but I also know with 100% certainty that my opinion of some people’s attitude is not unique.

I’ve loved this community, and spent thousands of dollars on this game. I’ve spent way too much of my work time on this board. I’ve complimented things and people deserving of it, and I’ve ripped people new ones they’ve deserved that. I’ve loved the people I’ve meant here.

I’m guessing from Kevin’s post that I’m not long for these boards. Alas, that would make me even more sad than the disappearance of the game, as I’ve made many virtual friends here. Heh, I was one of the first to leap from maxminis to this site. Kevin was one of my first successful trades, I still have his wonderful condition cards.
